Renew Missouri, a former project at Earth Island Institute, successfully litigated against an electric company and the Missouri Public Service Commission to enforce Missouri's Renewable Energy Standard, which was passed by a ballot initiative and required that all publicly regulated utilities offer solar rebates to their customers. Despite the clear mandate of the Renewable Energy Standard, the Missouri legislature and the Public Service Commission attempted to exempt one electric company from its solar requirements. As a result of Renew Missouri's efforts, the Supreme Court of Missouri upheld the will of the voters, as expressed in the Renewable Energy Standard, to bring clean energy to Missouri.
