Academic journal edited by a Penn State professor named “Best New Journal” by the CELJ

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pennsylvania — ASAP/Journal, an academic journal led by Jonathan P. Eburne, Penn State associate professor of comparative literature, English, French, and Francophone studies, has been named best new journal by the Council of Editors of Learned Journals ( CELJ).

Eburne, currently the journal’s editor and one of its founding editors, helped accept the award on behalf of the journal on Jan. 5 in New York City at an awards ceremony held in conjunction with the annual convention. 2018 from the Modern Language Association. The award follows ASAP/Journal’s receipt of the 2017 CELJ Best Design Award.

CELJ is an allied organization of the Modern Language Association and the preeminent organization dedicated to supporting scholarly journal publishing, with over 450 editors representing all disciplines. The organization’s Best New Journal award — one of eight it gives out each year to recognize scholarly achievement — honors a scholarly journal in the humanities with a publication history of three years or less.

ASAP/Journal is the peer-reviewed scholarly publication of the Association for the Study of the Arts of the Present. Published by Johns Hopkins University Press, the journal explores new developments in the visual, media, literary and performance arts after the 1960s. Recognizing the multidisciplinary nature of contemporary art and criticism around the world, ASAP/ Journal promotes intellectual exchanges between artists and critics of the arts and humanities.

ASAP/Journal was founded in 2016 by Eburne and Amy J. Elias, professor of English and director of the UT Humanities Center at the University of Tennessee, who earned her MA and PhD in English at Penn State. The online version of the journal, ASAP/J, is edited by Abram Foley, Lecturer in Literature and Creative Industries at the University of Exeter (UK), who also obtained his MA and PhD in English at Penn State.
