Cox Automotive Mobility and Spiers New Technologies have announced an expansion of their combined global footprint in the electric vehicle battery services business.

Atlanta-based Cox and Oklahoma City-based Spiers said new facilities in Belleville, Michigan, and Las Vegas, Nevada, will complement end-to-end EV battery service centers in Oklahoma City and in Ede, the Netherlands.

In September 2021, Cox Automotive acquired Spiers, which identifies itself as a pioneer and leading service provider for electric vehicle battery lifecycle management.

According to a statement, the combined companies and their new operations will offer a variety of storage, logistics, diagnostics, repair and refurbishment services to support manufacturers, dealers and operators of electric vehicle fleets. By the end of this year, their combined global footprint will exceed 1 million square feet.

“The expansion of our EV battery service centers in the Midwest and West reinforces Cox Automotive’s commitment to being the world’s leading battery health innovator and end-to-end battery service provider,” said Lea Malloy, head of EV battery solutions at Cox.

With automakers investing billions in new electric vehicle models, driven in large part by government environmental mandates, battery-powered vehicles are poised to become the dominant mode of transportation not just in the United States but around the world, the companies said. As the world’s largest automotive service provider, Cox is directing its business to support the transition. Malloy said work underway at Cox and Spiers will effectively extend the life of electric vehicle batteries and keep batteries out of oceans and landfills. The companies are already trusted advisors and engineering partners for many automakers, she added.

Spiers New Technologies has established a reputation as a leading full-service provider of ‘4R’ services for electric vehicle batteries used in hybrid and electric vehicles. The R’s stand for Repair, Refurbish, Reuse and Recycle.

Cox Automotive Inc., with more than 27,000 team members and brands such as Autotrader and Kelley Blue Book, is a subsidiary of Cox Enterprises Inc., a privately held Atlanta-based company with annual revenues of nearly $20 billion. dollars.
