George D. Mulligan | Obituary



George Daniel Mulligan, 75, of Martinsburg died on September 28, 2021.

He was born July 8, 1946 in Hagerstown, Maryland, and was the son of the late Charles and Beulah Mulligan.

George was a stubborn, hard-headed man who never knew a stranger.

He was a founding father and member of the Baker Heights Fire Department and was the first chief. He was also a member of the Beddington Fire Department, Hedgesville Fire Department and Halfway Volunteer Fire Department, as well as the Marlow Ruritan Club. He was employed by Mack Trucks for 15 years.

George is survived by his beloved wife of 21 years, Rebecca Mulligan; children: Christian Mulligan, James Mulligan, Scott Mulligan and Brian Mulligan; stepchildren: Penelope, Anthony and Karen; brother, Charles “Buddy” Mulligan; sister, Bessie Caldwell and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his grandchildren Ryan Christian, Ryan David and Emma Leann and his stepson Scott.

There will be a visitation for George from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 4, 2021 at Rosedale Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held in Rosedale at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 with interment to follow in Rosedale Cemetery. Pastor Cindy Wilson will officiate the services.

A meal will be served at the Hedgesville fire station after the services.

The bearers will be Chris Mulligan, Jamie Mulligan, Brian Mulligan, Willie Poe, Dave King, Dale Williams, Sammy Albaugh and Kenneth Rager with honorary bearers Mike Nichols and Kelly French.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in George’s name to a charity of your choice.
