MARTINSBURG — There’s something about the 5-0 games between Ona/Milton and Jefferson in the state’s Little League tournament.

Ona/Milton won a 5-0 game against Jefferson on Saturday, but Jefferson cruised to a 5-0 win Tuesday night at Oatesdale Park to oust Ona/Milton and advance to the last four.

It was Ona/Milton’s second loss of the day.

Jefferson will face Hurricane in the semifinals today at 5:30 p.m. Bridgeport and Barboursville will meet in the other semi-final.

The championship is scheduled for Thursday.

Jefferson pitcher Andy Roberts was in complete control, throwing one hit and retiring nine before the pitch count caught up with him with one out in the sixth inning.

Roberts has struck out four of the last five batters he has faced.

Hunter Heffner had the last two strikeouts.

Jefferson scored two runs in the first two innings.

Brayden Brown doubled while bouncing a hard shot past shortstop, and he doubled shortstop in the first inning. He scored on a defensive pick by Damian Vogel, whose pinch runner Shawn Dillow scored as Hunter Heffner hit a fly ball to right field that was given up for a three-base error.

In the second, August Torre and Austin Spears started the inning with back-to-back doubles. Torre scored on Brown’s field at second base, and Spears headed home on Mason Lowery’s line over second base.

The fifth run went through the fourth inning as Cameron Burdick looped a single over first base and headed home on Owen Utterback’s sacrificial bunt that popped into right field.

Jefferson had six hits.
