Melea S. Baker | Obituary



Melea Sue Fogle Baker, 65, of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, died of this life on Tuesday, October 19, 2021. She was the beloved wife of Lee R. Baker.

Born in Frederick, MD, on April 16, 1956, to the late Walter R. (Jr.) and Helen M. (Angleberger) Fogle of Walkersville, where she grew up and lived there until 1980. She then called her River View Drive, Harpers Ferry, WV, home, since 1990.

Melea graduated from Walkersville High School in 1974 and soon after began working for the United States Atomic Energy Commission in Germantown, Maryland. Later for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (1974-1978) in Bethesda, MD. She then attended Bauder Fashion College in Miami, Florida 1978-1979, and worked part-time at Burdines of Miami. After college, she worked for Woodward and Lothrop at Lakeforest Mall, Gaithersburg, MD as a Beauty Consultant at Clinique Comsmetics. Then as a Bon Ton Perfume Advisor in Frederick. She returned to the US Department of Energy, Germantown, where she continued to work as an administrative specialist for the Associate Director of the Bureau of Science. She retired in 2015 after 30 years of civilian service. Melea has been a Longaberger consultant for 15 years and has collected many baskets. She also worked part-time at Macy’s in Frederick as a Lancôme cosmetic beauty consultant and as a perfume consultant. Melea was a part-time animal sitter for friends and for several farms in the area, taking care of many varieties of animals. She was devoted and very loving to everyone in her care. Melea was a volunteer at Maryland Horse Rescue (formerly Horse Net Horse Rescue) and loved every moment of it. Melea is the greatest animal lover of all animals, especially her own pets, horses, and pandas. She also loved to listen to classical rock music and her favorite artist is Keith Urban, having attended numerous concerts all her life. She was an avid bowler and was in a league at the Walkersville Bowling Center for many years. Melea was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary at Frederick Post 11. She also enjoyed her retirement spending time with her 3 goldens, Ace, Jubal and Katie. She also loved her family of cats and was the greatest animal lover ever.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her brother Rick Fogle and his wife Debbie of Wilmington, North Carolina; niece Laura Rippeon; aunt, Margaret Brandenburg and husband Wayne, of Middletown, MD; sisters-in-law, best friend, Belinda Utterback and husband Steve of Springfield, WV and Brenda Watkins of Martinsburg, WV; special cousins ​​Barbara Haines and family, Bradley and Larry Grimes and families; Colorado special cousins, Pam Fogle and her family.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday, October 25, 2021 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, PA, 40 Fulton Avenue in Walkersville, MD, where a celebration of Melea’s life course will take place at 11 p.m. on Monday, October 10. 25, 2021. Reverend Tim May will officiate. Interment will be held at Glade Cemetery in Walkersville, MD. Per family, casual attire is required.
