Pedestrian struck in Martinsburg, in critical condition | Newspaper


MARTINSBURG – On Monday morning, a pedestrian was struck on Paynes Ford Road in the Teal Road area and is now in critical condition, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.

At around 7 a.m., deputies from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to report a traffic accident at the scene, a press release from the Sheriff’s Office said. According to initial reports, the appellant reported that he was driving his vehicle and struck a pedestrian walking along the road.

After the officers arrived, they located a man lying on his stomach on the side of the road and contacted the driver of the vehicle.

An investigation was carried out into the road collision. During this investigation, the driver of the vehicle was identified as Richard Monroe Jr., 44, of Martinsburg.

The official press release from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office added that the struck pedestrian was identified as 19-year-old Marquel Gray of Martinsburg.

Gray was airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital and is currently in critical condition, the statement said.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, the Baker Heights Fire Department and the Berkeley County Ambulance Authority were the agencies that answered the call.
