BERKELEY SPRINGS — Martinsburg provided a regular offensive supply Friday night in the District 6 Major Little League Tournament opener at the Morgan County Little League Complex.
The Orange and Black scored in all six innings en route to a 10-0 victory over the host team.
Martinsburg scored singles in three of six innings and had three in the fourth inning.
Martinsburg will play against Hedgesville at 7:30 p.m. today after South Berkeley will play against Jefferson County at 5:00 p.m.
Martinsburg started the scoring in the first inning as Braylon Cole walked, Donovan Nichols had his first of three hits and Thomas Garrett singled to drive in the first inning.
Martinsburg extended their lead to 3-0 in the second set.
Aiden Line curled a two-out single over first base and, after a wild pitch, scored on a Donny Peebles single.
Peebles, who bears a striking resemblance to the Palledorous Squints of “The Sandlot”, scored on a wild pitch.
In the third inning, Martinsburg starting pitcher Clayton Elliott walked, moved to second on a groundout, stole third and drove through the plate on a wild pitch.
Martinsburg scored three in the fourth.
Nichols doubled with two outs to start the rally. After a walk, pinch hitter Willie Strovel scored a two-run single and scored on an error.
On the fifth. Aiden Lackey scored a single and eventually scored on a passed ball, making it 8-0.
In the sixth, Martinsburg added a pair of runs as Elliott singled and scored as he stole home on the rebound. Line then scored a brace.
Morgan threatened in the final inning, getting singles by Avery Groves, Morgan’s starting pitcher, and Avery Rider. A strikeout, however, ended the game.
Rider had two of Morgan’s three hits.
Besides the three hits and a walk from Nichols, Peebles and Lackey, a backup, had two hits.
Morgan moves into the losers group of the double elimination event.
